Do I Need a Coach?

It is believed the English word coach has its origins in the Hungarian word kocsi, derived from a village where carriages were made. In the 1830′s, the term coach was used at Oxford University as slang for a tutor who “carried” a student through an exam. Today, the word coach is used for many services and professional help we receive whether we are involved in sports, business or are in need of some type of professional “carrying” ourselves.
Our clients often inquire about the services of a life/business coach but seem unsure as to exactly what a coach has to offer and what they do. In response to such questioning, I thought it would be a good idea to go directly to the source and call in our March professional coaching experts, Melinda Condray and Jon Prugh.
Melinda Condray is the owner and founder of Strategic Perceptions in Maryland. She is also the author of, Formula 52 Goals to Go. I had a chance to speak with her, and her associate Jon Prugh, about the coaching services they offer.
“With a coach, you start understanding your life and your challenges in new ways. From that new perspective, solutions that work for you start to emerge. You and your coach use those solutions to create your unique winning strategy. Along the way, your coach challenges you to grow, change, shift your thinking, experiment and take action. A coach helps you own your winning strategy, keeps you on track, helps you adjust along the way and celebrate your victories.”

Melinda and Jon note that in order to have a winning strategy you should OWN it:

1. Open-Be open to believing in yourself and your uniqueness

2. Willing-Be willing to change old habits and do things in new ways

3. Now-Start today; each step you take is one step closer to your finish line

Melinda and Jon also stressed the importance of finding the right coach. “(When) choosing a professional, like an (organizer), a personal trainer or a coach, it’s important to find someone who is right for you. Don’t hesitate to talk to several coaches. Most coaches offer a complimentary session so you can discover if coaching is the right fit (for you).”

Professional coaches are a wonderful source for individualized and personalized goal setting and support. If any of your goals involve the need to organize, please call us for a professional and complimentary phone evaluation.
